"Adonai" (Hebrew אדני) means a couple of things.
It comes from the word "adon" (אדון), which means "master."
It can refer to God (אדנָי) and be a substitute for the four-letter personal name of God in the Bible (יהוה).
It can also refer to people (אדנַי), either as "my lord" (which the master has power over life and death) or "my lords" (when referring to multiple masters).
You pronounce it as ah-doh-NIE (the ie in this case is like the ie in "lie").
